    Speaking Topics for English 11 – Second Semester

    HƯỚNG DẪN PART 2. TOPIC 1: NATURAL PROBLEMS

    – Such as: global warming, acid rain, air pollution, urban sprawl, waste disposal, ozone layer depletion, water pollution, climate change, …

    Example 1:

    I would like to talk about global warming. In my opinion, it is a big, if not the biggest, problem that we are facing nowadays. The main reason of global warming is the greenhouse effect … Nowadays people are producing excessive amounts of greenhouse gases, mostly by burning fossil fuels. These gases let sunlight in, which warms the Earth, and then block that heat from leaving… That breaks the delicate natural balance and causes our planet to warm… As global warming changes the climate on the whole planet, it affects all countries in the world and causes many serious problems… For example, global warming causes melting of glaciers, which in turn raises the sea-level… Eventually, coastal areas are flooding and agriculture is damaged unless appropriate measures are taken… As it is a worldwide problem, I think that only joint efforts will help us to overcome this issue.

    Example 2:

    It is regrettable that Hanoi, where I’m living, is negatively affected by pollution and the major environmental problems it is facing are water pollution, air pollution and noise pollution.

    In fact, pollution makes people here less healthy, and some even suffer from life-threatening diseases such as lung cancer, skin cancer, and so on. Therefore, the government must deal with this problem right away. Cutting down on vehicle use is the best way to reduce air pollution and noise pollution. We can do this by encouraging people to use public transportation. Besides, those who litter should pay a heavy fine. Finally, I think the best solution is to raise awareness and educate people to protect the environment.

    TOPIC 2: ENERGY RESOURSES

    – Such as: fossil fuel, wind energy, solar energy,

    Pros:

    + extremely beneficial – not only for the environment but also financially speaking

    + It can be harnessed in all areas of the world and is available every day.

    Cons:

    + Use a lot of spaces

    + Truly depend on weather status

    TOPIC 3: COLLETION

    Example:

    The hobby I like most is collecting music of singers whom I like so much. I like studying English so I’m interested in US-UK songs, especially I have passion for Taylor Swift and her songs. I started listening her songs when I was a little girl. Whenever she pulishes new songs, I enjoy them and download them into my cellphone even a special folder and has about 30 songs, but i don’t buy any album of her. Listening her songs makes me relax after studying hard, makes friends and especially improve my pronunciation and vocabulary. Thus, I have listened country music at first and have translated it into Vietnamese because they were quite slow and quite easy to hear and understand them. Realizing its benifits, I will go on listening and developing my collection.

    Example 2:

    1-I have been collecting stamps since I was a child. I’ve found it quite interesting.

    2-There are a wide range of things people like to collect, ranging from stamps to cars ,based on

    their interests. But I think people often go to gather small things such as stamps and jewelleries.

    3-Most people collect for relaxation and enjoyment although many hope that they will discover

    rare things that will make them wealthy.

    4- If I were wealthy enough I would like to be an antique jewellery collector, as I think such stuff are priceless and someday you will probably to make a fortune.

    Example 3:

    There are many natural wonders in Viet Nam like Paradise Cave, Perfume Pagoda, Cuc Phuong National Park,… but I like visiting Ha Long Bay best because of its attractive scenery, picturesque setting and touring experience.

    Ha Long Bay is one of seven natural wonders of the world. It’s located in the northeast of Viet Nam. In 1994 and 2000. Ha Long Bay was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Administratively, the bay belongs to Ha Long City, Cam Pha town and a part of Van Don District. It has 1969 islands and thousand of limestone karsts in various sizes and shapes, concentrated in 2 main zones: the southeast (belonging to Bai Tu Long Bay) and the southwest (belonging to Ha Long Bay). Many of them were acquired their names as a result of interptation of their unusual shapes such as Voi Islet, Ga Choi Islet, Mai Nha Islet. At the centre of the islands, there are wonderful caverns such as Thien Cung, Tam Cu, Dau Go, Sung Sot,… Coming here, you can have unforgettable experience with the peaceful nature, blue sky, white sands and tourist facilities as standardized hotels, restaurants,… Ha Long Bay is famous for its seafoods such as crabs, cuttles,…

    In short, tourists should visit Ha Long Bay. I feel comfortable and relax here. Touring experience is very good. Seafoods are delicious and at reasonable price. I love this place and I want to visit Ha Long Bay again.

    Some people may think cooking is just a daily to make meals. But for me, cooking is a hobby -the best hobby I have. I always cook after finding out the importances of cooking. I spend my freetime to learn more about different cooking methods. Biside, mother inspired me to cook. Sometimes I cook no delicious yet but I always feel happy because I had so many beautiful memories

    Question 3: Talk about the city life

    In my opinion, living in the city has many benefits. Firstly, city is the centre of economy, polite, cultural and social. There are many schools, hospitals, markets, offices, banks, companies, restaurants,… here so it’t very modern and convenient. It’s easy to find rented house, hotel or building. Secodly,City life provides us all sorts of entertainment: movies, theaters, amusement park, bars,… so it helps us relax after hard working. Finally, education in here is very good. We can be improved our knowledge by going to schools, universities or extra classes. It’s easy for young people hace many chance to have a well-paid job.

    Besides the benefits it city life also has some drawbacks. Firstly, cities are polluted and noisy because there’re many vehicles and factories here, environtment is polluted by dust of means of transports and waste of factories. Secondly, citizen are unfriendly. They are always hurry, that means people have no time to know each other and make friends. Finally, there aren’t enough playground for children to take part in outdoors activities so they spend their freetime using computer and forget everythingis happening.

    In short, I think the city life suitable for young people

    Question 5:Talk about the festival in VN

    Tet is one of the most important festival in VietNam. It’s held every year at the end of January or early February. Some weeks before Tet, Vietnamese clean their houses and paint their wall. They buy peach blossoms. Kumquat, flowers to decorate their houses. New clothes are bought on the occasion. One or two days before Tet, people make Chung cake – the traditional food, sticky rice, spring rolls and other spcial food.

Next, the blindfold will count from 1 to 10, the others will hide. After the blindfold was finished counting to 10, then that person will open their eyes to find the hider. If he or she find out every body, they will start anew game. If seeker doesn’t get all the hiders, the seeker will have to say “give up” and continue to play a new game. You should play it more because it can keep you entertained after the lessons at school and it’s good for health.

    Now there are many problems of environmental pollution such as water pollution, air pollution, soil pollution, noise pollution and deforestation but I think the most serious problem is rubbish.

    The rubbish is not good for health and environment. We should reduce the rubbish in the activities daily.

    Firstly, we need to reuse things such as: we use the bottles of milk, juice, mineral water to fill up water. If we don’t fit up the clothes, we can give for younger sister or younger brother,…

    Secondly, we can recycle the cans to make school things. We also recycle the paper boards to make useful things.

    Thirdly, we open a book festival. We swap books, stories, magazines, newspapers with each other.

    Finally, we use the reusable things such as: paper bags, reusable bags. So we do not need use plastic bags.

    So we can protect the environment with some little actions. I think people can do it to have a better life.

    My favorite TV program is Hello Jadoo – a famous program. I like this program because it is very funny and entertaining. It’s on Disney Channel at 5pm from Tuesday to Saturday every week. I always watch it . This program is about a cute girl, funny and intelligent but quite lazy and friends good-hearted, genial of jadoo. Through cartoon, I developed communication skills, perseverance and life skills. I wish cartoon will pmiere viewers or more episodes and more meaningful.

    PREPARING A DINNER PARTY

    Giving a dinner party is a wonderful way of entertain

    people. You can also make new friends and give others

    the chance to get to know each other better.

    It needs planning, though. First, make a guest list,

    with different kinds of people and a mixture of women

    and men. Don’t invite couples because they aren’t so

    much fun.

    When you know who can come, find out what they

    like to eat and drink. Note down any who are

    vegetarians, or who can’t eat or drink certain things for

    religious seasons.

    meal, sit down with your quests and have a good time –

    you’ve earned it!

    Distant education is a rapidly developing approach to instructions throughout the business. The approach has been widely used in business, industrial and medical organizations. For many years, doctors, veterinarians, pharmacists, engineers and laywers have used it to continue their professional education. Recently, academic instructions have been using distant education to reach a more perse and geographically disperse audience not accessible through traditional classroom instructions.

    The distinguishing characteristic of distant education is the separation of the instructor and students during the learning process. The communication of the subject matter is primarily to inpiduals rather than groups. As a consequence, the course content must be delivered by instructional media.

    The media may be primarily printed, as in the case of traditional correspondence course. Audiocassettes, videotapes, videodiscs, computer-based instructions and interactive video courses can be sent to inpidual students.     Part B. Talking about the given topic

    Topic 1: Talk about one kind of pollution.

    There are many causes that lead to water pollution in Viet Nam. One of the main causes is waste water coming from many factories and then being directly pulled out into the rivers, lakes or seas without any treatment because this is the most convenient way of dumping waste water. Industrial waste consists of some kind of chemical substance which is harmful for our life.

    Another cause of water pollution is the lack of awareness of citizens. Every day people generate a lot of garbage and they throw it directly into the rivers, ponds and so on.

    Topic 2: How to protect the environment?

    Nowadays our environment is polluted seriously so protecting our environment is our duty. For me we can protect our environment in the following ways.

    Firstly, we can use leaves to wrap food , reuse and recycle bottles and cans to reduce garbage

    Secondly, we shouldn’t throw trash onto the water to keep water cleaner put garbage bins around the school yard to pvent lazy students from throwing trash and to keep the schoolyard clean.

    Nextly, we should go to school or to work on foot or by bicycle to reduce exhaust fume to keep our air cleaner.

    In conclusion, it’s time for us to talk about environmental problem

    Topic 3: Talk about a natural disaster

    Typhoon is one of the natural phenomenon. The scientists can pdict when it happens. However , it sometimes happens suddenly so pparing well before the typhoon comes is very necessary and practical. For me the things we need to do before typhoon comes are.

    Firstly, we should buy some canned food and some candles and matches because when typhoon comes the market will be closed and no food will be available and there may be a power cut.

    Secondly, we should fill with buckets with water because when typhoon comes, the water pipes may be damaged.

    Nextly, we should fix the leak in the roof and tie the roof to the ground and pegs and ropes and check the windows and door latches because when typhoon comes it will be rainy and windy.

    In conclusion, pparing before the typhoon comes is our duty if we want to have a good life in areas where disasters often happen.

    Topic 4: How to reduce pollution at your school?

    There are many ways of protecting the environment at your school .

    Firstly, we should reduce and reuse the bottles, cans and plastic bags because they are hard to dissolve and we can save energy.

    Secondly, we should not throw trash on the water because the polluted water is harmful to people’s health and make fish die.

    Finally, we should go to school or go to work by bike or public transport to reduce exhaust fumes and save energy.

    In conclusion, protecting the environment means that we are improving the quality of our life.

    Topic 5: The importance of learning a new foreign language

    Nowadays, it is very important to learn a foreign language because of these reasons:First, learning a foreign language, English for example, helps us learn and get information about new things in the world. There are a lot of books written in English, French, Chinese…Second, it help us feel confident when we travel abroad. We can talk very easily with people in other countries and learn a lot from them. We can use the language to work and do business without an interpter.Finally, though a foreign language we learn we can learn more about the people of that country, we know a lot about their culture and society and customs and traditions. We can become friends of many people so our life is more chúng tôi short, when we know a foreign language we can open a new to our world. Because of the benefits of learning foreign languages, one should know at least one foreign language.

    Topic 6: Talk about a country/ city speaking English that you like

    Many famous places in the world I would like to visit, but the USA is favourite place to visit. Because following the reasons :

    First at all it is important for me when I am in a foreign country, to know about his history and culture. In DC I have the opportunity to learn about that in an exciting way; visiting historical sights, wonderful giant museums and interesting monuments. In addition there is a rich culture program offered to get a great view of the past and psent in USA. For example The Smithsonian Museums offer visitors 18 museums in Washington, DC. In some of them there are frequently artistic performances such as concerts, shows, theater, etc. I think there are plenty of sights filled with history, excitement and fun that I would enjoy.

    In the other hand Washington, DC is a city of colorful and perse neighborhoods, filled with shops and galleries, restaurants, urban parks and spectacular gardens. It is an opportunity to learn about different cultures. In addition, DC is home of international organizations and institutions, that work around the world. That makes DC interesting for me.

    In summary, the famous place that I would like to visit is Washington DC because of the historical sites that involve everyone in the history and culture of America and his persity that creates an amazing multicultural social environment.

    Nowadays, the mobile phone plays a major role in our lives, which brings many benefits to us but also contains some drawbacks. Both these sides will discussed in this essay.

    First of all, the mobile phone is considered the quickest means of communication in our daily life, we can contact easily with our friends and our relative wherever by calling or sending messages. Second, the mobile phone is also a means of entertainment for people. We can listen to music and play games on mobile phone. Moreover, by using the latest apps for smartphones , we can access to the internet to watch Film and check our profile in social networks and update our status wherever we are. Final, If we have a smartphone in hand, our studying becomes more effective such as look up dictionary, find out many source of reference on internet which is useful for studying.

    First, telephone user become addicted to their mobile phone if they are too depends on it.

    Moreover, the ability of human communication is limited if the mobile phone is more psent in some event such as class meetings, on the bus, in the park…some people only focus on their phone without communicating.

    Final, we shouldn’t use mobile phone while we are driving because it can lead traffic accidents.

    So we as a new generation, let us take an oath that we will use technology wisely as a means to progress and lead a healthy lifestyle. Thus we shall leave behind a better platform for the coming generations.

    Topic 9: The most useful machine in the twentieth century

    Among the most useful inventions in the last century; I find the computer the most important because of these reasons:- First, when the computer is connected to the Internet, it is a good way of learning and getting information. You can read newspapers on line and download lots of information from the web pages.Besides, you can learn online as well.- Second, computers is convenient because it helps you work faster by typing, printing document and storing data if you want.- Finally, computer is a good way to entertain with many kinds of games and entertainments. There are a lot of games and on line activities like forum or Facebook for you to share ideas and information with your friends. You can also listen to music or watch movies if you like. In short, computers are really useful and important to my life and my work.

    There are some rules about road safety. It very important to obey these rules when you use the road. We should:

    – Always look carefully where you go

    – Use the pavement or footpath

    – Walk across the street at the zebra crossing

    – Wait for the traffic light to turn green before you cross the street.

    – Always fasten your seatbelt when you drive

    – Don’t drive if you feel tired or after you drink alcohol

    – Strictly obey traffic signals

    – Always wear a helmet when you ride a motorbike or electric bike

    – Give a signals before you turn left or right

    Always keep both hand on the handle bar

    2. When you are a road user, what should you NOT do?

    We shouldn’t talk and laugh loudly, look back, go in a red light…

    1. Do you like films? Yes, I enjoy watching films. When I want to relax, or have some fun, I like to watch movie. 2. What kind of films do you like best?

Do you pfer to watch films in the cinema or at home? * I pfer to watch films at home, because the I can choose any movie I want to watch and I can pause it if I need to go get something.5.     * I pfer to watch movies at the cinema, because then I get to see the movie on a big screen, with a better sound system. I think it makes the movie more impssive, you know.

    My favorite movie is cartoon “Tom and Jerry”. Tom is a cat with blue and white color. He keeps the house for a normal family and has a very free life. His job is chasing Jerry day by day. Jerry is a brown house mouse. He usually lives in the deep cave behind the wall. Although they hate each other so much and always find ways to hurt opponent but when Tom or Jerry falls into really dangerous situations, then both become another savior (vi cuu tinh). The film is an endless confrontation between Tom and Jerry, bring plenty of laughter for the audiences. I love this film because when I watch it I feel very glad, feeling like returned to childhood.

    TET HOLIDAY FLOWER FESTIVAL

    Thanksgiving (also called Turkey Day) is a seasonal holiday held annually to give thanks to God for successful harvests. Thanksgiving is traditionally celebrated with a feast among family and friends. Not only adults but children take part in the food pparation.

    Traditional foods are turkey, gravy, sweet potatoes, cornbread, potatoes, and cranberry sauce. After the feast people often do some other activities. Some like to go for a walk. Some take naps. Others play board or card games together.. They volunteer to cook and serve food to homeless people, spend time with sick people in hospitals or help a needy family.

    What should we do to save energy?

    I used to attend the Tet holiday flower festival . It’s called Nguyen Hue Flower street festival. It is held in Nguyen Hue street in district 1, HCM city. It takes place every Tet Holiday for 1 week. It is celebrated by HCM People’s committee . They display and decorate the street with many kinds of flowers and lights. Many people come there to enjoy the beautiful flowers and take pictures.

    Unit 10 SOURCES OF ENERGY

    What means of transport will people travel in the future?

    Nowadays, energy is being run out more and more. We need to save energy because nobody of us can lives without energy. We have many ways to save energy in our home. One of those ways is using electricity, water and gas economically, we should turn off the light in room when we go out or in unnecessary situations, avoid wasting water, shut the kitchen stove when stop cooking. Besides, we should use the low light bulbs. We also can use public transport more often

    Talk about the problems of overpopulation and offer solution

    Unit 11 TRAVELLING IN THE FUTURE

    It is Solar-energy plane. It looks like a normal plane but it has the solar panel on the wings. The panel will catch the sun shine and create the electricity for the plane. It may be a great invention helping to create the energy and protect environment.

    It is flying car. It’s a kind of driverless car and airplane. It has many benefits. With its automated system, the car can avoid traffic. It drives at 300 kph. It has SSS, it’s a sky safety system, it will stop everyone from crashing and it will help them avoid traffic jam. It has four seats, so your family or friends can join the ride.

    It’s a flying motorbike. It looks like a normal motorbike, but it can fly without wings, it will use electricity transferred from solar energy. It can travel fast and work well in bad weather. I think it will be very useful and popular in the future.

    Overpopulation can lead to :

    – Overcrowding and poor quality housing in many large cities.

    – too many vehicles cause air pollution and noise

    – lack of employment, poverty, people have to live in slums, so they get a lot of disease

    – and overpopulation can create the homeless and hunger

    The Government Should

    – rising crime rate as poor living conditions

    – there is not always enough food and malnutrition, not enough fresh and clean water, not enough school for children

    – provide essential housing and healthcare for people

    – Raise an awareness of the problems of overpopulation.

    – Carry out population education program/family planning programs.

    – Create more jobs by building more factories in rural areas
